Stomach cancer, which is also known as gastric cancer, can be prevented just by a few easy tips.
Gastric cancer can be prevented if you avoid foods with high amounts of salt, pickles and smoked ingredients including salted fish and meat. Use food preservation methods like refrigeration, which is an alternative to preservation by smoking, pickling or salting.
By including fruits and vegetables in your diet lowers the stomach cancer risk significantly. Choose whole-grain foods over the refined ones. Preferring beans, fish and poultry instead of red meat and processed meat will also help in the prevention.
Being overweight and smoking also increases the cancer risk. Hence, quitting smoking and a lifestyle to include moderate exercise is always beneficial for good health.
A very small percentage of stomach cancer is caused due to hereditary gastric cancer syndrome. In case of a family history of stomach cancer, it is recommended to consult a genetic professional to perform genetic testing for ruling out gene mutation.
