Diabetes is the most common disease, affecting people of all age groups. Managing diabetes is a challenge. When a person has high blood sugar due to inadequate insulin production or inability of body cells to respond to insulin, she/he is considered to be diabetic.
The extra glucose in the blood leads to serious health issues like kidney damage, and other complications like damage to the nerves, eyes, etc. There is a risk of heart disease and stroke too. Diabetes in pregnant women is called gestational diabetes and it calls for special care for the mother as well the baby.
A person with family history of diabetes needs to be more careful and get a regular screening done. Exercise, weight control, balanced diet and regular health check-up help to stay away from diabetes.
