Rubella IgG Antibody Test

The rubella IgG test is primarily used to determine if a person has been previously exposed to the rubella virus and has developed immunity. IgG antibodies are produced by the body in response to the infection or vaccination. Detecting IgG antibodies indicates a past infection or prior immunization against rubella. This test is particularly important for women of childbearing age, as rubella infection during pregnancy can lead to congenital rubella syndrome, causing birth defects in the baby.
