Skin Cancer Prevention Tips

There are not many known skin cancer early symptoms, and the only way that the cancer can be detected is the routine checkup or self-examining the body every now and then. However, following some tips to prevent the disease can be the best way to stay healthy and cancer free.

  • Do not use tanning bed or sun lamp

Tanning is the result of exposure to ultra violet radiation which causes skin cancer. People who use tanning bed or solarium for getting tanned skin have higher risk of getting the cancer.

  • Stay in shade

Prevention of the skin from direct exposure from sun is suggested to prevent the cancer. Using sunscreen (with that protects against the UVA and UVB rays and has sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30), staying in shade and covering the skin with clothes help to reduce the risk.

  • Select the clothes that can protect from UV rays

A white thin t-shirt might not be any help to protect the skin from UV rays, however, thick clothes like a jean jacket can do a good job. Completely covering the skin with thick clothes can help preventing the disease.

  • Drink green tea

Consumption of green tea reduces the risk of developing skin cancer. Catechins (a compound found in green tea) are found to be highly effective at protecting the cells from damaging its DNA.

Few researchers have found the skin cancer vaccine (for melanoma cancer) that triggers a strong immune response, however, the therapy is still in its experimentation phase and not proven completely helpful.

To live healthy & happy, one must keep a check on the body’s functioning by going for regular health checkups. This helps in assessing risk factors and diagnosing diseases at an early stage, which will result in effective treatment and better management of the condition.
