Medical Check-up by Doctor– Precounselling

A doctor explains you about what all tests you will be undergoing & it's importance. He also takes your complete medical history into account and assesses your basic heath profile. Past history for major illnesses if any. Personal history for habits & lifestyle. Family history to know diseases in family.

• Laboratory Work-Up

This includes a set of tests that will detect any disturbance in internal functioning of your body & help you so as to ensure that you live a healthy life. These tests are helpful in providing valuable information about the state of your health. For early diagnosis of onset of these diseases we conduct the following tests:
  • Haemogram: detailed assessment of vital parameters of blood

  • Blood Group Testing: useful for receiving and donating blood, especially in emergencies

  • Urine Test (Routine & Micro) brings to light the presence of infection in the kidneys and urinary tract.

  • Blood Sugar Testing (Fasting & post-meal)

  • Blood Urea and Serum Creatinine to assess the performance of the kidneys

  • SGPT, SGOT, Serum Bilirubins to gauge the performance of the liver

  • Lipid Profile for analysis of various types of good & bad fats in the blood, extremely useful in forecasting heart disease

  • TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) Test: measured as a screening test for abnormal thyroid function indeed useful in psycho-somatic stresses.

• Chest X-Ray

This is a simple procedure that screens lungs and heart for diseases like tuberculosis, chronic asthma, pneumonia, lung cancer and enlargement of the heart. For a more detailed diagnosis, a PFT / Echocardiography is carried out.

• Electro Cardiogram (ECG)

Electro cardiogram is a simple and routinely conducted test to assess the electrical activity of the heart. An ECG shows changes that may be suggestive of reduced blood supply to the heart, a life threatening condition whereupon, further investigations like stress test or angiography can be done.

• 2D Echo Cardiography (Doppler study of the heart)

Enables the internal structural visualization of our heart. It studies the condition of valves, the four chambers of heart (atria and ventricles), cardiac capacity during the contraction and relaxation also during load/stress, cardiac defects from birth (congenital) like ASD, VSD etc, coronary vessels, pericardial (cover surrounding heart) effusion (collection of water), tuberculosis (TB) etc.

• Total Body Fat Percentage

The fat percentage is the percentage of body fat mass (the weight of the fat) in relation of your body weight.

Healthy Body Fat Range
Under 30 yrs. old Over 30 yrs. old
Males 14 % -20% 17 % - 23 %
Females 17 % - 24 % 20 % - 27 %

Source: Clinical Data obtained by Jikei University School of Medicine

The body fat percentage and body fat mass are determined by the following calculation:

Body fat percentage (%) = Body fat mass (kg) ÷ Body weight (kg) x 100
Body fat mass (kg) = Body weight (kg) fat – free mass (kg)

• CT Calcium Scoring

Calcium deposition in the vessel walls is a marker of the process called 'Arteriosclerosis' i.e. stiffening which leads to loss of normal elasticity of the blood vessel. This may further lead to multiple medical problems including heart attacks An average calcium score upto 60 is considered to be permissible. Any score above this suggests higher risk of Arteriosclerosis. Depending on the score, medical management can be started. If the calcium score is too high, CT coronary angiography has to be abandoned.

• CT Coronary Angiography (Heart)

This is the latest non-invasive technique of screening for anginal problems. Angio means blood vessels and graphy means study. What gives this scan the edge is its speed. Since the heart is never stationery, often a clear image is impossible to acquire, but this process makes it possible as it takes a picture in 0.4 seconds when the heart relaxes during a beat. The scanner computer uses the images to construct a 3-D image where blockages appear as they would once the heart is opened. The entire process is completely non-invasive, painless and much faster than conventional procedures like cardiac catheterization (angiography).

• Counselling by Physician

You will get the added advantage of counselling session with an experienced physician who will not only discuss your problems, if any, but will also guide you as to what changes you may have to within the framework of your lifestyle in order to make it more healthy. This will include an assessment of all the test reports and advice on methods to improve and maintain health. However, it is advisable to keep a proper follow up of whatever advised, with your family physician.

Note

1. The CT tests listed in the packages are recommended for people above the age of 35 yrs. or with at least one of the following Risk Factors:
• Family history • Smoking • Diabetes • BP problem / Hypertension • Dyslipidemia (elevated cholesterol / triglyceride levels) • Stressful lifestyle • Obesity

CT Scanning is not recommended for pregnant and nursing women and will not be done.

2. This set of Medical Diagnostics and Laboratory Tests have been chosen for early detection of commonly occurring health problems without apparent signs and for scientifically assessing the state of one's body viz. the ideal requirements

3. The results and interpretation of certain tests are age related and may get affected if the age is quoted wrongly. Please therefore ensure that you declare your correct age.

  2. You do not hold your breath while being scanned

  3. Your heart rate suddenly shoots up while being scanned (This may happen due to fear, anxiety etc.)
6. Chest X-ray may not be done on women who are in the reproductive age group and have come for the checkup in the "unsafe period” of their menstrual cycle, since radiation is harmful to the foetus in the first trimester and pregnancy cannot be detected before 5 weeks of gestational age.
